Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life, and you want every moment to be captured perfectly by your photographer. While the ceremony and reception venues are obviously important, the location where you get ready can also have a big impact on the quality of your wedding photos. but is often overlooked. As a San Diego photographer specializing in weddings and elopements throughout Southern California, I’ve seen firsthand how the getting-ready location can make a huge difference in your photos. In this post, we’ll explore why the place you get ready for your wedding is important for photography and I’ll give you tips on how to choose the perfect location.
Why the Getting ready Location Matters
First, let’s talk about why the getting-ready location matters. Where you get ready is not only where you’ll spend a large chunk of time but it’s an important part of telling the story of your day. It really helps if the location is conducive to great photography.
Here are some tips:
Lighting: Lighting is one of the most important factors in photography, and the getting-ready location can greatly affect the quality of light in your photos. Ideally, you’ll want a location with plenty of natural light that is flattering and doesn’t cast harsh shadows.
Space: The getting-ready location should be spacious enough to accommodate your wedding party and any vendors who will be present (such as hair and makeup artists). A cramped space can make it difficult for your photographer to capture all the action and emotion.
Decor: The getting-ready location should be visually appealing and reflect your personal style. A beautiful backdrop can enhance the overall look and feel of your wedding photos.
Convenience: Finally, the getting-ready location should be convenient and easily accessible for all involved. You don’t want to waste time traveling between locations on your wedding day, so choose a location that is close to your ceremony and reception venues.
How to Choose the Perfect Getting Ready Location for your San Diego Wedding
Consider the lighting: Look for a location with plenty of natural light, such as a room with large windows or a terrace with an open view of the sky.
Look for space: Make sure the location is spacious enough to accommodate your wedding party and vendors. A large hotel suite or a rental house with multiple rooms can be a good option.
Choose a visually appealing backdrop: Look for a location with beautiful decor or interesting architectural features that can serve as a backdrop for your photos.
Keep convenience in mind: Choose a location that is close to your ceremony and reception venues to avoid wasting time traveling on your wedding day.
Other Options
As a final point- don’t feel like a hotel is the only option! Peerspace and AirBnb are great resources. You often can find a better space for less money. If you do go the hotel route opt for suite. It gets crowded FAST!
The place you get ready for your wedding is an important factor in the quality of your photos. Choose a location with great lighting, space, decor, and convenience. You’ll ensure that your getting-ready photos are just as stunning as the rest of your wedding day.
